It is important to remember that each young player is an individual and will develop in different ways from the next. This is why it is very important to coach the players as an individuals. Expect them to be selfish and don’t expect lots of passes….if any. There are many different characteristics of players under 5 year old. They are often excitable with lots of energy. This is great and I try and use this to my advantage by playing fun, football related games. Players of this age will need constant encouragement. The only way to learn is with plenty of time on the ball.
